Lagos Speaker Obasa declares bid for House of Reps seat

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has announced his intention to contest for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections.
Obasa, who has represented Agege Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly since 2003 and is currently serving as a sixth-term lawmaker, made the declaration on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Agege.
The meeting, which brought together party leaders and key stakeholders ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries, was used to formally unveil his political ambition.
According to him, the decision followed wide consultations within the constituency, where party stakeholders reportedly encouraged him to seek a federal legislative position.
“I answered the call of our leaders and stakeholders who believe I can serve Agege better,” Obasa said.
He called on members of the APC in Agege to remain united as the party prepares for its internal primaries, stressing the importance of cohesion and discipline.
Obasa also used the gathering to drum up support for other aspirants within the area.
He endorsed Ganiyu Egunjobi, a former chairman of Agege Local Government Area, who is seeking election into the Lagos State House of Assembly, saying he had served the people diligently.
“Egunjobi has served our people diligently and deserves the support of all loyal party members,” he said.
The Speaker further expressed support for Azeez Ninolowo, an aspirant for Agege Constituency II, urging residents to back candidates with experience and commitment.
He said Agege needed leaders who understood the needs of residents and were ready to deliver effective representation at both state and federal levels.
“We must present candidates with capacity, loyalty, and commitment to the progress of Agege,” he added.
