Anyafulu secures APC ticket for 2027

The lawmaker representing Oshimili South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 general elections following a successful direct primary conducted across the local government area.
The exercise, held in all 11 wards of Oshimili South Local Government Area, recorded a massive turnout of registered APC members who participated peacefully and orderly in the affirmation process.
Party faithful unanimously endorsed Anyafulu as the party’s sole candidate for the State House of Assembly seat.
At Ugbomanta Ward 8, where the lawmaker personally monitored the exercise, supporters turned out in large numbers to reaffirm their confidence in her leadership and representation.
The primary election was supervised by the Returning Officer for Oshimili South, Mr. Amafini Akemotubo, alongside other party officials.
Declaring the result, Akemotubo announced that Anyafulu had secured the mandate of the party and would fly the APC flag in the constituency during the next general election.
“It is my pleasure to declare Hon. Bridget Anyafulu as the candidate of our party for Oshimili South Constituency in the next general election,” he stated.
Anyafulu, who currently serves in the eighth Delta State House of Assembly, emerged unopposed in the exercise, a development widely viewed as a reflection of her growing influence and acceptance within the party and across the constituency.
Speaking shortly after the primary, the lawmaker described the process as peaceful, transparent and inclusive, commending the APC leadership for ensuring a level playing field that encouraged active participation by grassroots members.
According to her, the overwhelming support she received from party faithful demonstrated the confidence constituents have in her leadership and performance during her first term in office.
“The overwhelming support from party members shows the confidence and acceptance I enjoy among my constituents,” she said.
She further praised the direct primary system, noting that it reduced unnecessary financial pressure on aspirants while allowing ordinary party members to freely choose their preferred candidates without intimidation.
Anyafulu said the successful conduct of the exercise reflected the steady growth of democracy in Nigeria, stressing that credible and accountable leadership could only emerge through active participation by the people.
Looking ahead to another tenure, the lawmaker assured constituents of improved representation and enhanced service delivery, adding that the lessons and experience gathered during her first term would help strengthen her performance if re-elected.
“Governance is a continuous learning process that requires constant interaction with the people,” she stated.
She explained that constructive criticism and regular engagement with communities had significantly shaped her leadership style and improved her understanding of the needs of the constituency.
The lawmaker also expressed appreciation over the impressive turnout of supporters despite her emergence as a consensus candidate, describing it as evidence of her strong grassroots connection throughout Oshimili South.
She emphasised the importance of accessibility in leadership, maintaining that effective representation requires patience, understanding and sustained engagement with constituents at all times.
