Trump Cancels Planned Strikes on Iran

United States President Donald Trump on Thursday announced the cancellation of planned military strikes against Iran, saying the decision was reached after discussions with the Iranian leadership advanced significantly.
The announcement came just hours after Trump had adopted a tougher tone toward Tehran, threatening additional military action and expressing interest in taking control of Kharg Island, Iran’s principal oil export terminal.
In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform, the U.S. president said diplomatic engagements had reached a critical stage, prompting him to halt the planned attacks.
“Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening,” Trump wrote.
The development signaled a potential easing of tensions between Washington and Tehran following a period of heightened uncertainty and concerns over possible military escalation in the region.
Trump disclosed that key elements of the ongoing discussions had received approval from the United States and several regional and international partners.
According to him, the understandings reached involved not only Washington and Tehran but also Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and Egypt, among other stakeholders.
The president suggested that negotiations had progressed sufficiently to justify suspending military operations while efforts continue toward a broader agreement.
Despite the decision to halt the planned strikes, Trump stated that a naval blockade would remain in place until the ongoing negotiations are formally concluded.
“The Naval Blockade will remain in full force and effect until this Transaction is finalized. Time and place of the signing to be announced shortly,” he said.
The statement has raised expectations of a possible diplomatic breakthrough involving multiple countries in the Middle East and beyond, although details of the proposed agreement have yet to be publicly disclosed.
Observers said the cancellation of the strikes may help reduce immediate fears of a wider regional conflict, while attention now shifts to the outcome of the negotiations and the terms of any final arrangement.
Further information on the proposed agreement and the next phase of discussions is expected in the coming days.
