Delta Assembly reaffirms commitment to strengthening security operations

The Delta House of Assembly Committee on Peace and Security has reiterated its commitment to providing strong legislative backing and effective oversight to ensure that security agencies in the state perform at their best.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Dr. Isaac Anwuzia, gave the assurance when he led members of the Committee on an oversight visit to the State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Saturday in Asaba.

The visit, he said, was part of the Assembly’s ongoing engagement with security institutions aimed at strengthening peace and stability across the state.

Hon. Anwuzia, who represents Aniocha South Constituency, highlighted that the eighth Delta Assembly has passed several bills and motions focused on enhancing public safety and community security.

According to him, these legislative actions demonstrate the Assembly’s unwavering resolve to promote peace and protect lives and property within the state.

Flanked by Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe (Patani) and Hon. Festus Utuama, (Ughelli South), Anwuzia commended the NSCDC for its proactive role in maintaining law and order, safeguarding critical infrastructure, and fostering community peace initiatives.

He also emphasised the need for the Corps to continually evolve its operational strategies through tactical and preventive measures, as well as stronger collaboration with sister security agencies.

“This visit forms part of our constitutional oversight duties.

”It is aimed at deepening institutional cooperation and ensuring that agencies like the NSCDC have the right framework and legislative support to function effectively.

”The importance of inter-agency collaboration cannot be overstated, and we remain committed to laws that strengthen the efficiency and effectiveness of all security organizations in Delta State, ” he said.

Responding, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Chinedu Igbo, briefed the visiting lawmakers on the Command’s recent achievements, ongoing operations, and operational challenges.

He further expressed appreciation to the Committee for its continued engagement and appealed for sustained legislative and logistical support to enhance the Corps’ performance.

“I want to thank the Committee for this visit and for recognising our efforts.

“We look forward to continued collaboration with the State Assembly as we work to improve security and community resilience in Delta State, ” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the visit ended with an exchange of souvenirs between the lawmakers and the NSCDC leadership.
