Diri hails peaceful APC ward congress
Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa, has commended the peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress ward congresses held across the state.
The governor spoke on Wednesday at Sampou, headquarters of Sampou/Kalama Ward 6 in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
He participated in the congress and witnessed the affirmation of new ward executives.
Diri congratulated party delegates for electing leaders through consensus and voice vote affirmation.
He described the process as transparent and generally accepted across the state.
According to him, reports indicated that the exercise was largely rancour-free.
He expressed optimism that upcoming local government and state congresses would follow the same peaceful pattern.
The governor stressed that politics should foster unity rather than division.
He said development of communities and the state must remain the ultimate goal of political engagement.
Diri noted that unity among party members would accelerate growth in local governments and across Bayelsa.
He added that the APC national leadership would be proud of the state’s orderly conduct.
The governor thanked the party’s National Executive Council and the state caretaker committee led by Dr. Dennis Otiotio.
He also acknowledged the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies.
According to him, their presence contributed to the peaceful outcome of the exercise.
The congress in Sampou/Kalama Ward 6 was conducted by a committee led by Chief Frank Omare.
Mr. Shedrach Fetuga emerged as chairman alongside other ward executives.
In his acceptance speech, Fetuga thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to work towards securing victory for the APC in future general and governorship elections.
The event was observed by Hon. Oghene Egoh and INEC representative, Engr Prince Erasmus.
