Tinubu hails Governors’ Forum for endorsing Tax Reform Bills

President Bola Tinubu has expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) for their unanimous endorsement of four Tax Reform Bills currently under consideration by the National Assembly.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement released Friday, commended the governors for demonstrating bold leadership and a commitment to national unity, transcending regional, ethnic, and political divisions to advance Nigeria’s development.
Thursday’s consultation between the NGF and the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy was highlighted as a model for effective collaboration between federal and state governments.
The President extended special recognition to Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, the Chairman of the NGF, for rallying governors to support the transformative bills aimed at rejuvenating Nigeria’s economy and enhancing its investment climate.
Tinubu also acknowledged the roles of the Progressive Governors Forum, the Northern Governors Forum, and other bipartisan groups in resolving controversies surrounding the tax reform agenda.
The President emphasised that the primary objective of the Tax Reform Bills is to improve Nigeria’s economic competitiveness and attract both local and foreign investments, particularly through pro-poor policies. He underscored the importance of modernising the country’s outdated tax laws to achieve these goals.
Tinubu praised the dialogue between the NGF and the Presidential Committee as an example of the power of constructive conversation in resolving differences. He urged other stakeholders with ideas to engage with the ongoing legislative process at the National Assembly to refine the bills further.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to working with governors to promote economic growth, peace, and stability, describing them as essential contributors to nation-building.
The President further called on the National Assembly to expedite the legislative process for the Tax Reform Bills so that the nation can begin reaping the benefits of the reforms without delay.
