Service-oriented leadership key to national development – Osinbajo

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has emphasised the importance of service-oriented leadership in politics and governance.
He made this call while delivering the keynote address at the Rotary International District 9141 Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Osinbajo stressed that politics should focus on providing essential services like quality education, accessible healthcare, and a robust social security system.
He cited Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s introduction of free basic education in Western Nigeria as an example of impactful governance.
The former vice president recalled his role in drafting the APC manifesto in 2014, which led to initiatives like the national school feeding scheme and TraderMoni.
He also emphasised that a nation’s greatness is measured by how it treats its most vulnerable citizens.
Osinbajo however decried the pervasive corruption in Africa and stressed that the continent suffers from underutilisation of its human resources.
He challenged the elite to reflect on their achievements and prioritize the welfare of the most vulnerable populations through better budget prioritization and fiscal policies.
