Senate gets N1.783trn FCT Appropriation Bill

President Bola Tinubu has submitted a proposed N1.783 trillion statutory appropriation bill for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the Senate for consideration and approval for the 2025 financial year.
The President urged the Senate to expedite consideration of the bill, emphasising its importance for effective administration in the FCT.
President Tinubu’s communication to the Senate highlighted the significance of the bill, stating that its passage was critical to ensuring an effective and service-oriented administration for FCT residents.
The Senate invoked Order 78 to fast-track the bill’s second reading on the same day it was introduced.
However, Senator Abdul Ningi raised concerns about the procedure, noting that the lawmakers had not received copies of the bill before the debate.
Leading the debate, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele explained that the bill sought to authorize the issuance of N1,783,823,708,392.00 from the FCT Administration’s Statutory Revenue Fund.
The budget breakdown includes,  N150.35 billion for personnel costs, N343.78 billion for overhead, N1.29 trillion for capital projects
Bamidele emphasised that the budget prioritised completing ongoing projects with significant impacts on infrastructure and essential services in Abuja.
He said, ”the primary objective of the budget was to drive an effective and enduring service-oriented administration, with a strong focus on completing ongoing projects that have significant impacts on infrastructure and essential services in Abuja.”
The Senate began debating the general principles of the FCT Statutory Appropriation Bill for the 2025 fiscal year.
