Akwa Ibom Governor warns Commissioners: Adhere to protocols or lose jobs

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, has warned members of the State Executive Council that he would sanction any cabinet member who fails to adhere strictly to official protocols of his engagements.
Eno made this declaration during an unscheduled visit to the site of the Judiciary Village in Uyo on Friday, expressing his displeasure at the disregard for official procedures by some members of his cabinet.
“That’s like four commissioners and I’ve not found them. Starting from today, I (would) like everyone to hear, when they hear that I fired the commissioner in your local government, it is insubordination,” Eno said.
He emphasised that it was mandatory for his commissioners to ensure that they take him back to the office or the lodge after an event, as issues may arise that require their attention.
“It is wrong for the governor to go on an appointment if nobody else follows him, my commissioners, special advisors are members of my first 11, and I do not announce where I will go,” Eno added.
He warned that any commissioner found wanting would be immediately relieved of their position, stating, “If I look for that commissioner, the commissioner is not there, the commissioner will lose his or her job right there and then.”
The governor instructed that a memo should be issued to all commissioners in the state, mandating that no commissioner would go anywhere until they get to his lodge after an event.
Eno emphasised that the fact that he is a simple person does not mean that he is an appointed governor, stressing that he was overwhelmingly elected by the people of Akwa Ibom state.
Eno’s warning underscores his commitment to discipline and accountability within his administration.
By enforcing strict adherence to official protocols, he aims to ensure that his cabinet members are focused on serving the people of Akwa Ibom state.
