Mbappe edges closer to golden shoe with brace in Madrid win

Real Madrid bid an emotional farewell to Carlo Ancelotti and Luka Modric with a 2-0 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday, while Kylian Mbappe virtually sealed the European Golden Shoe award with a brace.
Mbappe scored twice, including a penalty rebound, to take the lead in the Golden Shoe standings.
Ancelotti, who is leaving to coach the Brazilian national team, and Modric, who will play at the Club World Cup for Madrid, were given a guard of honour and sang by Madrid fans.
Madrid finished the season second in La Liga, behind champions Barcelona, and will play at the Club World Cup in the United States.
Mbappe’s brace moved him six goals clear of Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski in the battle to be La Liga top scorer.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah could yet claim the Golden Shoe prize if he scores four goals against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Modric was given a guard of honour when replaced late on and was embraced by former Madrid midfield partner Toni Kroos.
Many fans were in tears as Modric departed, and banners showing affection for both Ancelotti and Modric were displayed throughout the stadium.
