Atiku, Obi meeting in Abuja briefly disrupted by Jigawa delegates

A coalition meeting for the North, involving prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, was disrupted by delegates from Jigawa State at the Abuja Continental Hotel on Sunday.
The meeting, organised by the National Political Consultative Group (North), was briefly disrupted following a disagreement over representation for Jigawa State.
Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, named a delegate to represent the state, but Jigawa delegates objected to the selection.
The atmosphere grew tense as the Jigawa delegates stormed the stage, barring the nominee from speaking and refusing to be represented by them.
Order was eventually restored after several minutes of appeals when Mustapha Lamido, son of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, and another delegate were selected to represent the state.
The incident highlights the challenges of coalition-building and representation within the group.
Despite the brief disruption, the meeting appeared to continue, with the newly selected delegates from Jigawa State participating.
The National Political Consultative Group (North) aimed to bring together prominent northern figures, but the incident showed that internal disagreements could pose challenges to the group’s objectives.
