APC governors’ endorsement of Tinubu not a mockery of Nigerians – Gov. Sule

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, has defended the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election by fellow All Progressives Congress (APC) governors.
According to Sule, the endorsement is not an attempt to mock Nigerians but rather a “belief” in the President’s leadership qualities.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Sule said, “It is a conviction of the governors, it is a belief of the governors. There is no sign of a mockery in this.”
He emphasised that the governors’ endorsement was based on their conviction that President Tinubu has done well and has achieved much.
Sule also noted that the opposition party, PDP, had set a precedent for such endorsements when they were in power.
“And with due respect, this is not the first time this has happened. At one point, the PDP had 31 governors in this country, and this is not long ago, and they did not play on the intelligence of Nigerians, ” he said.
He cited the example of PDP governors endorsing President Goodluck Jonathan in 2014.
Sule believed that there should be no grounds for complaints over the endorsement, saying that it was a matter of the governors’ belief in the President’s leadership.
“It is all part of the belief of the governors of the ruling party that the President has done well and has done much,” he said.
The governor also dismissed claims that the country was turning into a one-party state, noting that the APC has roughly 23 out of 36 states.
According to him, when you hear the term one-party system, the APC has roughly 23 out of the 36. We forget this history very quickly.
He emphasised that the country was going through a process of reforms and that the APC was following the necessary procedures.
Sule concluded that the country needed to go through this process to achieve progress.
“We have issues right now, and we are working with reforms that have been done. Before it can be the best time for Nigeria, you have to go through this process.
”We are saying the process is what is being followed right now,” he said.
