Rivers: Tinubu inaugurates 180MW power plant to boost national grid

President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the 180MW Afam II Power Plant in Rivers State, a significant milestone in Nigeria’s quest for energy security and sustainable development.
The plant, completed in 16 months by Sahara Power Group in partnership with Crescendough Nigeria Limited, will boost the national grid and drive economic growth.
The President, who inaugurated the project virtually from Abuja, described the plant as a crucial addition to the national grid and a vital step in the country’s drive towards stable electricity supply.
Tinubu emphasised that the project would stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and promote industrial development.
The President praised the partnership between the public and private sectors, highlighting the importance of collaboration in achieving stable power supply.
Tinubu assured investors of the Federal Government’s continued support for improving the business environment and transforming the power sector.
The Group Managing Director, Kola Adesina, said the project would catalyse productivity in Nigeria, promoting job creation, industrial growth, and sustainable development.
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu described the project as a significant milestone, exemplifying collaboration between public policy reforms and private sector investment.
Rivers State Sole Administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, commended Sahara Power Group for completing the project within 16 months, attributing the success to President Tinubu’s commitment to supporting infrastructure investment.
