PDP warns Nigerians of APC’s plot to foist one-party regime

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Nigerians to resist the All Progressives Congress (APC) alleged plot to establish a one-party regime in the country.
According to the PDP, the APC’s actions are eroding democratic tenets, including justice, rule of law, and credible electoral processes.
This is contained in a statement PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Thursday as the country celebrates Democracy Day on June 12.
“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) calls on Nigerians to use the occasion of the June 12 Democracy Day to re-awaken and strengthen their resistance to the anti-democratic designs of the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly the plot to foist a despotic One-Party regime in Nigeria.
“The PDP urges Nigerians, Institutions of Democracy, Organised Civil Society, Development Partners and indeed all lovers of democracy to unite in speaking out against the stifling of democratic tenets of justice, the Rule of Law, free, fair, peaceful credible electoral process and the right of citizens particularly to freely participate in politics and governance in Nigeria, ” the statement said.
The PDP accused the APC of using state apparatus to violate the constitution, undermine opposition, and manipulate democratic institutions.
The party cited the 2024 Edo State governorship election and the imposition of a sole administrator in Rivers State as examples of democratic erosion.
The APC-led presidency is also accused of colluding with corrupt leaders in the judicial and National Assembly, undermining people’s sovereignty ¹.
The PDP demanded that the APC administration respects the memory of Chief MKO Abiola by adhering to democratic principles.
The party called for an end to intrusion in the activities of the National Assembly and other democratic institutions.
The PDP demanded for a free press, credible elections, truthfulness, transparency, and review of poverty-weaponizing policies.
The PDP urged the National Assembly, judiciary, and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to assert their constitutional independence and operate based on the rule of law.
The party also called on Nigerians to stand against oppression and remain law-abiding while rallying with the PDP to rescue the nation from APC’s stranglehold.
