Insecurity, poverty issues predate Tinubu’s administration – Uba Sani

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna, has criticised opposition politicians for failing to address the country’s challenges when they were in power.
Sani made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme of Friday.
He noted that some of the issues plaguing Nigeria, particularly insecurity, predated President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The governor noted that poverty levels in northern Nigeria rose from approximately 50 per cent to 70 per cent between 2008 and 2023,.
According to him, some of the challenges the country is facing, especially insecurity, started before the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“All the people talking today were at the helm of affairs, and things were growing. The poverty level in northern Nigeria grew from almost 50 per cent, 15 years ago, to 70 per cent on average as of 2023, and someone can look at me and tell me the problem was caused by Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Come on,” Governor Sani said.
Sani attributed the growth to the ineffectiveness of previous administrations.
He specifically mentioned that banditry and other forms of insecurity were relatively limited in 2014 but escalated around 2015 and 2016 due to the lack of attention from the then-PDP-led government.
Sani, who served in the Senate before becoming governor, recalled the frequency of incidents requiring moments of silence in the Senate due to loss of life, highlighting the worsening security situation from 2017 to 2019.
