No fewer than 500 delegates from 30 African nations are expected in Nigeria for the 2025 Pan-African Humanitarian Leadership Award (TPAHLA) in October.
The Registrar, Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development (IHSD), Francis Origa, disclosed this on Friday in Abuja, at an event to commemorate the 2025 World Refugee Day in Abuja
Origa, who is also the Chair of the TPAHLA 2025 Planning Committee said the theme of the Awards is “Honouring Heroes – Forging Forward,”
He called for nominations for the Award (TPAHLA) scheduled for Oct. 15 to Oct.19
The Registrar , specifically, called on governments, NGOs, private sector leaders, academic institutions, and every individual who value humanitarian leadership to nominate those making a difference.
He said, “Nominate the courageous, the committed, the innovative. Those driving peace, dignity, resilience, and impact across our continent.
“TPAHLA was established to celebrate these very leaders, to amplify their work, and to empower them to do even more,” he said.
Speaking on the 2025 World Refugee Day, Origa advocated support for displaced persons in the society to harness their potentials.
He described the celebration as a day that embodied the spirit of compassion and resilience that defines the work of IHSD and TPAHLA.
The Registrar listed the challenges facing the continent to include insecurity, displacement, hunger, and the marginalisation of millions of people.
“Today, we stand in solidarity with the millions of displaced persons across Africa, mothers, fathers, and children, whose courage, resilience, and unyielding hope continue to inspire us.
“Their stories remind us how urgent and compassionate humanitarian action must remain at the heart of our shared agenda.This is not merely a commemoration, it is a call to renewed action.
“It is worthy of note that certain individuals and organisations have been in the forefront of championing the cause and welfare of refugees and internally displaced persons across Africa.
“Hence, the need to recognise and celebrate such individuals cannot be overemphasised,” he said.
World Refugee Day is celebrated in June 20 every year to raise public awareness about refugee situations around the world.
The theme for this year celebration is “Solidarity with Refugees: A call to Action for Inclusion”.
