Senate President condemns Benue attack, calls it act of terrorism

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has condemned the recent attack on Yelwata in Benue State, describing it as “an act of terrorism”.
Speaking during the plenary session on Wednesday, Akpabio expressed deep concern over the gruesome attack and raised fears that such violence may have political undertones.
Akpabio condemned the attack, emphasising that those behind the violence would be identified and brought to justice.
He expressed hope that the killings were not politically motivated.
The Senate has launched an investigation into the killing of 12 travelers from Zaria, Kaduna State, who were brutally murdered in Mangu District, Plateau State.
This followed a motion sponsored by Senator Khalid Mustapha (Kaduna North)
The senate passed a resolution condemning the killings, observing a minute of silence in memory of the victims.
The senate also mandated its committees on national security and intelligence, defence, and police affairs to investigate the killings and present recommendations.
The senate called on the Inspector General of Police to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killings.
