Reps inaugurate Committee to Investigate CNG Policy Implementation

The House of Representatives has inaugurated an ad-hoc committee to investigate the implementation of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) policy in Nigeria.
Speaking during the inauguration in Abuja on Thursday, chairman of the committee, Rep. Jaha Usama (APC-Borno), said that the mandate to the committee included assessing the safety, viability and sustainability of the CNG policy in Nigeria.
According to him, they are to ensure that the executive arm of government established CNG centres equitably across the country to give all Nigerians a sense of belonging;
The chairman said that the committee will engage relevant agencies of government, International Oil Companies (IOCs) and other organisations to ensure that the nation’s policy on CNG met global best practices.
He said that the committee would evaluate the CNG policy’s effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
Usama said that committee would ensure that CNG centers are established equitably across the country to give all Nigerians a sense of belonging.
The committee is also expected to engage with relevant government agencies, International Oil Companies (IOCs), and other organisations to ensure that the nation’s CNG policy meets global best practices according to him.
”The committee will determine the adequacy of existing regulatory and legal frameworks governing CNG policy implementation.
”The committee will recommend appropriate legislative measures to enhance the implementation of the CNG policy, ” he added.
The House of Representatives passed a resolution in May 2025 to establish CNG centers across Nigeria and set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate CNG policy implementation.
