ADC’s Kachikwu blasts coalition, says members will take country backwards

Dumebi Kachikwu, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticised the newly formed opposition coalition that adopted the ADC as its platform for the 2027 elections.
Kachikwu, who spoke on Wednesday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today, criticised the political alliance, which recently adopted the ADC as its operational platform for the 2027 elections,  saying that they are enemies of Nigeria.
His words: “They are enemies of progress. Nigerians can no longer be fooled. Nigerians from all walks of life watched the video.
”I just saw it today and what you saw in that hall were ‘former’ this and ‘former’ that: former Vice President, former governors, former ministers. All these ‘formers’ are taking Nigeria back to its former glory.
They’ve never taken us forward. ”
Kachikwu described the coalition members as “enemies of Nigeria” who were determined to drag the nation backward.
He lamented the recycling of old politicians who he believed have brought Nigeria to its current state.
Kachikwu noted that 80 per cent of the population is poor, and yet these same politicians want to lead the country again.
He also criticised the dominance of older politicians in the coalition, saying that 70 per cent of them are above 75 years old.
Kachikwu accused the coalition of hijacking the ADC through illegitimate means, saying that Ralph Nwosu’s tenure as national Chairman had lapsed two years ago.
He added that the party’s constitution required members to have been part of the party for at least two years to hold office, which the coalition’s leaders do not meet.
Kachikwu announced that he and other ADC members would write to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for clarification on the matter.
He said that if INEC recognised the coalition’s leadership, he would bow out of the party.
The opposition coalition, which included prominent figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai, has adopted the ADC as its platform for the 2027 general elections.
The coalition hopes to present a united opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections.
