ADC’s Dalung responds to Kachikwu’s claims of party hijack

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has defended the opposition coalition’s adoption of the African Democratic Party (ADC).
Dumebi Kachikwu, the presidential candidate of the ADC in the 2023 election, had accused the coalition of hijacking the party and not carrying stakeholders along.
However, Dalung said due process was followed in the coalition’s adoption of the ADC, and key stakeholders were carried along.
The former minister said this on Thursday while answering questions on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics.
He cited the presence of the party’s chairman of the board of trustees and other members of the national working committee during the unveiling ceremony as evidence of the coalition’s legitimacy.
“The chairman of the board of trustees of the party was in attendance.
”So, it wasn’t a hijack because the members of the party were there, and the coalition elements were there to witness the transition of leadership.
“He [Kachikwu] might not know the developments that had taken place. He might not be in touch with the party, and so not quite informed about what has happened.
”But then he had expressed his feelings about what had transpired. The party will have to deal with it because the party is under new leadership, ” said.
The coalition, which includes top politicians such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, aimed to rescue Nigeria and rebuild its democracy.
The former Senate President, David Mark, has been announced as the interim chairman of the party, while Rauf Aregbesola serves as the secretary.
