VP Shettima, Gbajabiamila to accompany Buhari’s body to Nigeria

Barely hours after the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, a high-level delegation led by Vice President Kashim Shettima and President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will travel to the United Kingdom to accompany the late former president’s body back to Nigeria.
Buhari passed away in London at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at the age of 82, after a prolonged illness.
The news of his passing was confirmed by his former special adviser, Garba Shehu, in a statement.
President Tinubu confirmed the death of his predecessor and revealed that he has conversed with Buhari’s wife, Mrs. Aishat Buhari, while expressing condolence.
Tinubu had directed national flags to be flown at half-mast across the country in honour of the late leader.
Buhari served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, after being elected twice.
He had also previously ruled the country as military head of state between January 1984 and August 1985.
The nation mourns the loss of a leader who dedicated his life to serving the country.
The high-level delegation’s trip to the UK underscored the respect and dignity accorded to Buhari’s legacy.
