Table Tennis: Men’s team wins 2025 ITTF Africa West regional championships

Nigeria’s men’s table tennis team have reclaimed their crown at the 2025 ITTF Africa West Regional Championships, defeating Côte d’Ivoire in the final.
The championship, ongoing at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall in Lagos, served as a qualifier for the 2025 African Championships in Kigali, Rwanda.
Nigeria’s men’s team won the championship with a 3-0 victory over Côte d’Ivoire in the final.
After losing the title to Togo in 2024, the Nigerian men’s team returned with renewed determination and strong performances from Matthew Kuti, Taiwo Mati, and Abdulbasit Abdulfatai.
Nigeria’s women’s team, led by Ajoke Ojomu, maintained regional dominance, retaining their title with wins over Benin Republic, Ghana, and Guinea.
The women’s team demonstrated strong performances, with Ajoke Ojomu, Kabirat Ayoola, and Aishat Rabiu topping their groups in the singles competition.
The singles competition promises to be intense, with defending men’s champion Oba Kizito of Côte d’Ivoire facing tough competition from Nigeria’s Taiwo Mati and Matthew Kuti.
Players from Togo and Benin Republic are also expected to contend for medals in the singles category.
The top three teams in each event will qualify for the continental finals in Rwanda this October.
Nigeria’s men’s and women’s teams have demonstrated strong performances, positioning themselves for qualification.
The championship will end on Saturday, July 19, with titles to be decided in both men’s and women’s singles.
