ADC gains strength as former PDP, APC chieftains defect

A significant shift in Ekiti’s political landscape occurred on Friday, July 25, 2025, as several notable politicians, including former Deputy Governor Professor Olusola Eleka and ex-Speaker of the Ekiti House of Assembly, Boyega Aribisogan, joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The duo were among several chieftains from various parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Labour Party (LP), who merged their structures into the ADC during its unveiling in Ado-Ekiti.
The list of defectors includes Dr. Tae Lawal, former Deputy Governor under Governor Segun Oni, and Ambassador Dare Bejide, former Secretary to the State Government. Additionally, Akin Omole, former Commissioner for Information under Kayode Fayemi, and several former political appointees from the local government level, as well as executive members of various political parties, have also joined the ADC.
In his address during the unveiling, Mr. Omolayo Omole, the state Chairman of the ADC, emphasised that the party has the solution to the nation’s several challenges.
He urged political leaders across party lines in the state to join the ADC “for a better Nigeria.”
Professor Olusola Eleka, former Deputy Governor, stated that the ADC is an amalgamation of parties who believe in the “rescue project.”
He expressed confidence that the party has come to stay, saying, “Contrary to opinions, we are not pursuing shadows. We are indeed pursuing reality, and we are going places. ADC has come to stay whether they like it or not.”
Also, Professor Bayo Fakunle, representing former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, noted that the ADC has come to change the narrative, saying “nothing can stop a moving train.”
