Petrol Supply Unaffected: Dangote refinery maintains stable operations

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has denied recent rumours of a shutdown, confirming that its operations are fully active and stable.
In a statement by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Chief Anthony Chiejina, the refinery’s management categorically denied claims that truck loading has been suspended or that production has been interrupted.
“The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is fully operational. There has been no shutdown, nor has there been any suspension of truck loading activities,” the statement reads, ” he said.
Chief Chijiena reassured the public and market stakeholders that its activities remain fully active and stable.
Chiejina also clarified that the intermittent sale of Residual Catalytic Oil (RCO) was part of normal business operations, often involving large parcel sales, which explains the recent fuel oil tender.
Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Dangote Industries Limited, revealed that the company expects to complete work on its main petrol unit by mid-August, with full operations resuming before August 18.
Petrol sales, which were paused for a week, have restarted, and loading of petrol, diesel, and jet fuel continues alongside new crude deliveries.
The refinery holds about two weeks of fuel reserves and has dismissed reports of a planned 40-day shutdown in December.
The ex-depot price of PMS remains N850 per liter, despite speculation about potential price increases.
The refinery has raised its petrol ex-depot price by nearly seven per cent following a rise in global crude oil prices, which climbed to about $73 per barrel as of Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
The new pricing took effect on Thursday, August 7, 2025, following a one-week halt in petrol loading.
In response to speculation about potential supply shortages and price increases, the refinery challenged those sponsoring the rumor to place orders for daily deliveries of up to 40 million liters of PMS and 15 million liters of diesel for the next 90 days.
The move aims to demonstrate the refinery’s capacity to meet demand and stabilize the market.
The Dangote Refinery reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and Nigeria’s energy security, urging the public to disregard unfounded rumors sponsored by unscrupulous and unpatriotic individuals seeking to undermine the country’s energy independence for their selfish interests.
