Soludo backs Tinubu for 2027: ‘I’ve known him for 22 years’

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu, citing their 22-year friendship that transcends party lines.
Prof. Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) said this on Tuesday after he met with Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House in Abuja.
During the visit, Soludo, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), donned a cap emblazoned with inscriptions pledging support for Tinubu, who is seeking re-election in 2027.
Despite belonging to different political parties, with Soludo being a member of APGA and Tinubu being a member of APC, Soludo emphasised that their friendship remained strong.
Soludo described his friendship with Tinubu as one that has lasted for 22 years, saying, “President Tinubu is my friend, has been my friend for 22 years now and counting, so you don’t deny your friend”.
The governor expressed admiration for Tinubu’s economic reforms, saying, “I support him, and I’m impressed by the bold steps he has taken, particularly in the area of the economy”.
Soludo emphasized that progressive parties should work together to deepen democracy and drive economic development, highlighting the need for a broad coalition across party lines.
Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and a member of the Labour Party, is seeking to become president in 2027.
Soludo has opposed Obi’s proposal for a single-term presidency, emphasising the importance of staying on the current reform path for long-term stability and growth.
