Wike vindicated by PDP’s zoning decision, says Aide

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has been vindicated by the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) decision to zone the party’s presidential ticket to the South.
This was disclosed his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
Olayinka stated that the PDP’s decision not to zone the ticket to the South for the 2023 polls resulted in the party’s electoral misfortune.
He recalled that Wike and the G-5 had insisted that the presidential candidate and national chairman of the PDP should not come from the same zone.
The minister’s aide in a statement on Monday, said that the PDP’s decision to zone the presidential ticket to the South and retain the national chairmanship position in the North was a clear vindication of Wike’s position.
He noted that the party had realised its mistake of not listening to Wike and the G-5 in 2022 and was now correcting it.
Olayinka, however, wondered if the party’s decision was not already too late, considering that the zoning arrangement would only be justified if the South concludes its eight years, and the presidency returns to the North in 2031.
The PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja confirmed the zoning of the party’s presidential slot for the 2027 poll to the southern part of the country.
The party also affirmed Umar Damagum as its substantive national chairman.
