Jonathan 2027: Omokri declines comment

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has declined to comment on growing calls for his ex-principal, Goodluck Jonathan, to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Omokri during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, explained that his relationship with Jonathan made it difficult to comment on such a matter.
“I have an unconditional love for President Jonathan and so I will not criticise or give an opinion on anything he does on live television,” he said.
Omokri cited his personal relationship with Jonathan, saying, “I have an unconditional love for President Jonathan, and so I will not criticise or give an opinion on anything he does on live television.”
His reluctance to comment stemmed from his close bond with Jonathan, who reportedly spent 10 days with him and his family in California.
As Jonathan’s former media aide, Omokri’s relationship with the ex-president made it challenging for him to publicly weigh in on such matters.
Jonathan was Nigeria’s president between 2010 and 2015, taking over from former President Musa Yar’Adua, after the latter’s death in 2010.
He later contested for the post the following year but lost to Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 polls.
But 10 years after he left office, calls for Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential elections have continued to grow with chieftains of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wooing him to team up with the party.
Meanwhile, PDP has expressed interest in having Jonathan join their presidential race.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum on Thursday described Jonathan as one of the “most celebrated politicians today” and believes he would be a good fit for the party’s ticket.
The PDP is also considering other potential candidates, including former Anambra State governor Peter Obi. Mohammed stated that if Jonathan decides to join the party and run, he would be given serious consideration.
Similarly, Obi would be given an opportunity if he decides to join a platform with no encumbrances.
