2027: I won’t align with Tinubu to become Lagos Gov, says Rhodes-Vivour

The 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has ruled out aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s political structure to become the governor of Lagos State.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Rhodes-Vivour described such an alignment as a “complete waste of time”.
Rhodes-Vivour emphasised that his goal in politics is to improve the lives of Lagosians and restore the state’s old glory.
According to him, “The reason why we are in politics is to make the lives of Lagosians better; it is to restore Lagos to its old glory, glory that a lot of people might not really be familiar with in terms of the history of Lagos, and the greatness that Lagos once was.
“Any party that will not allow me to maximise the commonwealth of Lagos for the benefit of its people is a complete waste of time, ” he said.
He believed that any party that won’t allow him to maximize Lagos’ resources for its people’s benefit is not worth his time.
He also criticised the current political landscape in Lagos, describing it as “agberocracry” where politicians rely on violence to suppress and intimidate people.
Rhodes-Vivour recently defected from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing his desire to directly challenge the ruling party.
He further disclosed that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, was aware of his decision.
When asked if he would contest the Lagos State governorship election in 2027 on the platform of the ADC, he replied, “By God’s grace”.
Rhodes-Vivour’s decision reflected his commitment to opposition politics and his determination to bring about change in Lagos State.
The ADC has vowed to defeat President Tinubu’s party in the 2027 presidential election, and Rhodes-Vivour’s move is seen as a strategic step in this direction.
