China donates flood relief materials to Nigeria

The Red Cross Society of China, through its Embassy, has donated 1,000 family kits to the Nigerian Red Cross Society to assist communities affected by recent flooding across Nigeria.
The handover ceremony was held at the Nigerian Red Cross Society National Headquarters in Abuja on Friday, marking a significant humanitarian collaboration between the two countries.
Mr. Zhou Hongyou, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, said the donation reflected China’s solidarity with Nigeria during those challenging times caused by severe floods.
His words: “Recent floods have caused tragic loss of life and property damage in Nigeria.
”We extend our condolences to affected families and communities impacted by this disaster,” Zhou expressed.
He also emphasised that the donation embodied China’s commitment to humanitarian cooperation and people-centered development, aligning with President Xi Jinping’s global governance initiatives.
Zhou further expressed confidence that under Nigeria’s strong leadership, affected communities would overcome the disaster and rebuild their homes and livelihoods with coordinated efforts.
Dr Abubakar Kende, Secretary-General of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, hailed China’s generous support, noting it would benefit flood victims in Niger State and other hard-hit areas.
Kende assured that the relief materials would reach those most in need and invited Chinese officials to visit flood-affected communities in Makwa, Niger State, to assess the impact.
He reiterated the Nigerian Red Cross Society’s role in complementing government disaster response and thanked China and its Red Cross Society for their ongoing solidarity.
