Vice President Kashim Shettima Departs for 80th UNGA in New York

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The event will take place from September 22 to 28, 2025, and will feature high-level general debates, side events, and bilateral meetings.
Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications (Office of the Vice President), disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
Representing President Tinubu, at the global event, Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement and join other dignitaries at the UN high-level general debates, among other side events.
The Vice President will attend a special event on Climate for Heads of State and Government, hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and announce Nigeria’s new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.
Shettima will participate in the high-level roundtable of the Global Champions on Adequate and Affordable Housing, hosted by the President of Kenya, to discuss innovative solutions for affordable housing.
 The Vice President will also engage in bilateral meetings and events to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic relations with other countries
After attending the UNGA, Shettima will travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for meetings with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
