Atiku hails unsealing of Natasha’s office, accuses Tinubu of subverting democracy

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has hailed the unsealing of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office at the National Assembly, describing it as a victory for reason over tyranny.
Atiku stated that the development proved that when Nigerians stand together, they can triumph over tyranny.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended for six months in March 2025 over alleged violation of the Senate’s standing rules.
Despite serving her suspension, the lawmaker’s return to office was contingent on the outcome of a court case.
The Senate had maintained that her suspension would only be reviewed after the Court of Appeal’s decision.
Atiku Abubakar, however, expressed solidarity with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, emphasising that her perseverance symbolized resilience against political intimidation.
He also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, alleging a pattern of democratic subversion, including the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Atiku further cited this as an example of the administration’s strategy to silence opposition voices.
He accused the President Tinubu’s administration of using state institutions to harass and intimidate opposition voices.
Atiku alleged that the actions were deliberate moves to subvert Nigeria’s hard-earned democracy and compromise the will of the people as the 2027 elections approach.
The Senator returned to her office on Tuesday, September 24, 2025, after the Sergeant-at-Arms of the National Assembly reopened her office.
Her supporters cheered and danced as they accompanied her from the FCT High Court, where she appeared in a case of alleged defamation filed against her by the Federal Government.
