Jonathan plan to meet Tinubu over Nnamdi Kanu, says

A former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress and human rights activist, Sowore Omoyele Sowore, revealed that former President Goodluck Jonathan has agreed to meet with President Bola Tinubu to discuss the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Sowore made this disclosure in a post on his X handle after meeting with Jonathan on Friday in Abuja.

According to Sowore, they discussed the urgent need to resolve Kanu’s case.

Jonathan reportedly welcomed the need to address Kanu’s case in the interest of justice and national unity.

Sowore stated that Jonathan’s intervention has added to the growing voices calling for Kanu’s release, including those of former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Femi Falana SAN, Senator Shehu Sani, and many others across political and regional divides.

Sowore emphasised that Kanu remains in detention because he took up the just cause of confronting the long-standing issue of marginalization in Nigeria.

Sowore also called on key political, cultural, and religious figures to lend their voices to the demand for Kanu’s release.

These include Peter Obi, Chukwuma Soludo, Alex Otti, Francis Nwifuru, Peter Mbah, Hope Uzodinma, Oby Ezekwesili, and Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s John Mbata.

Sowore expressed gratitude to Jonathan for recognizing the importance of resolving Kanu’s case in the interest of peace, fairness, and national healing.

He also noted that Jonathan promised to meet with President Tinubu to discuss the issue as soon as possible.
