PDP still united, strong despite defections – Gov. Fintiri
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has assured Nigerians that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains united and resilient, despite the recent wave of defections by some governors and key stakeholders to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Fintiri, who chairs the planning committee for the party’s upcoming national convention, gave the assurance on Thursday in Ibadan while speaking with journalists after inspecting the Lekan Salami Sports Complex — the proposed venue for the PDP convention scheduled for November 15 and 16.
Fintiri also reaffirmed the PDP’s position as a formidable political force, expressing confidence in the party’s capacity to reposition itself and reclaim power in the 2027 general elections.
“The PDP remains strong, focused, and united. Defections are not new in politics, but what matters is the strength of our structures and the belief of Nigerians in our ability to provide a better alternative,” Fintiri stated.
He added that the convention would reflect the party’s commitment to internal democracy and its readiness to chart a new course for national leadership.
Governor Fintiri further expressed satisfaction with the level of preparation at the proposed venue and commended Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for his unwavering support in hosting the event.
The PDP’s national convention is expected to attract party leaders, delegates, and stakeholders from across the country as the party works toward reorganising ahead of the next electoral cycle.
