Kane strikes again as Bayern edge Dortmund to stay top of Bundesliga

Harry Kane was on target once more as Bayern Munich secured a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, preserving their perfect start to the Bundesliga season and extending their lead at the top of the table.

The England captain scored for the seventh straight game, bringing his tally to 19 goals in 11 appearances across all competitions.

Bayern now sit five points clear with a flawless record of 21 points from seven matches.

“It was a big game. Dortmund were unbeaten for a while and we were too,” Kane told reporters post-match.

“We have to keep getting those wins. We’re doing that well so far,” he added.

The loss saw Dortmund slipped to fourth place, seven points behind Bayern.

Head coach Vincent Kompany deployed Kane in a deeper No. 10 role, supporting Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson in attack.

The switch paid off early, as Kane orchestrated multiple chances for Luis Díaz and Michael Olise in the opening 10 minutes.

Kane opened the scoring in the 21st minute, heading in from a corner for his 400th club career goal.

Dortmund improved after the break and nearly equalised when Serhou Guirassy capitalised on a defensive error to set up Karim Adeyemi, who slipped at the crucial moment.

Jobe Bellingham, coming off the bench for Dortmund, was dispossessed inside his own box, allowing Olise to double Bayern’s lead in the 79th minute.

Despite a late response from Julian Brandt, who tapped in a cross from Julian Ryerson in the 84th minute, Bayern held on.

Kane was seen encouraging Bellingham afterward, “I told him, ‘Keep doing what you’re doing.’ He’s a great player with a lot of potential.”

With his current deal expiring next year, Kane hinted that talks over a contract extension were on the horizon, “There’s no rush, but I think things are going really well. I’ve said before how happy I am at Bayern.”

Alex Grimaldo scored twice as Bayer Leverkusen edged Mainz 4-3, stretching their unbeaten run to eight games.

Leverkusen are now level on points with Dortmund in fifth.

Grimaldo converted an early penalty and added a second just before halftime.

Jonas Hofmann starred with a goal and an assist.

Despite a late Mainz comeback, Leverkusen held firm.

“After a bumpy start, we’re picking up points,” Hofmann told Sky Sports. “We’re adapting well under our new coach.”

Kasper Hjulmand, who replaced Erik ten Hag in September, continued to stabilise the side ahead of their European clash with PSG.

RB Leipzig 2–1 Hamburg: Christoph Baumgartner netted a brace as Leipzig climbed to second.

Stuttgart 3–0 Wolfsburg: Goals from Tiago Tomas, Maximilian Mittelstädt, and Angelo Stiller saw Stuttgart rise to third.
