Osinbajo appointed head of ECOWAS election observation mission to Côte d’Ivoire

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has named Nigeria’s former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to lead its Election Observation Mission for the upcoming presidential elections in Côte d’Ivoire.
The announcement was made by the ECOWAS Secretariat in Abuja on Sunday.
The Ivorian presidential election is slated for October 25, 2025, and the ECOWAS observation team will be deployed from October 19 through October 29, in accordance with the ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.
As Head of Mission, Professor Osinbajo will spearhead a delegation of distinguished West African figures tasked with engaging national electoral stakeholders.
Their mission is to support a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process, while also coordinating efforts with other international and domestic observer groups monitoring the elections.
The team will assess the conduct of the polls and work towards fostering cooperation to ensure that the electoral process strengthens peace and stability within Côte d’Ivoire and the wider West African sub-region.
This deployment highlights ECOWAS’s firm commitment to upholding democratic principles and good governance in the region.
