President Tinubu welcomes prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, to Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu received Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, at the Presidential Villa on Monday, marking the start of a week-long visit to Nigeria aimed at promoting youth development through the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
The visit, which runs from November 17 to 23, includes a series of events in Lagos that bring together young leaders, policymakers, and programme representatives from around the world.
During the week, about 200 participants from more than 50 countries will take part in a three-day youth leadership program, followed by the International Award’s triennial forum focused on expanding global access to the initiative.
Prince Edward’s visit highlights Nigeria’s growing engagement with the program. Participation in the award in Nigeria has increased by more than a third in the past year, reflecting rising interest across West Africa.
Globally, nearly 1.2 million young people were involved in the program last year, with the UK accounting for roughly half of participants and Kenya the second largest group.
The reception at the State House offered a platform for both leaders to discuss the importance of youth empowerment and leadership development.
Photos from the event captured a cordial meeting between President Tinubu and the Duke of Edinburgh, underlining the partnership’s significance.
Officials said the program provides young people with opportunities to develop essential skills, take on community projects, and engage in activities that foster personal growth and leadership.
