Kebbi Govt confirms 2 schoolgirls have escaped captivity

The Kebbi State Government has confirmed that two of the schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga have escaped from their captors.

The State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Halima Bande, provided the update while speaking to Channels Television in Zuru on Tuesday.

Bande explained that 26 girls were initially kidnapped during the attack.

Two students, identified as Salma and Hauwa’u Liman, have successfully returned and are safe, leaving 24 still in captivity.

She described the incident as a traumatic event, noting the uncertainty regarding the girls’ conditions, such as where they are kept and what they are fed.

The Commissioner urged the public and media outlets to avoid spreading misinformation, emphasising the importance of relying on verified information regarding the abduction.

The abduction, which followed an attack on the school by armed assailants, has triggered a massive response from security forces and local authorities who continue efforts to rescue the remaining students.
