Dachung Bagos criticises PDP expulsions, questions due process

Dachung Bagos, a former House of Representatives member, has criticized the expulsion of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, and nine other PDP leaders.
He also argued that the move, led by the Umar Damagum faction, did not follow the party’s constitution and proper disciplinary procedures.
Speaking on The Morning Brief on Monday, Bagos said, “They are supposed to have been a disciplinary committee before suspending or even expelling someone with just a voice vote.
”Due process was not followed, and actions taken like this are like taking decisions at a market square.”
Bagos added that regardless of timing, any attempt to “clean the house” must respect internal rules. He also expressed pessimism about the party’s future given the ongoing crisis, saying, “As it is, I don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
The controversy stemmed from the PDP national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, where Wike, Fayose, national secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and others were expelled for alleged anti-party activities.
Bode George moved the expulsion motion, citing actions inconsistent with the party’s interests, and it was seconded by the Bauchi State PDP chairman and supported by Governor Bala Muhammed.
However, the expulsions faced resistance from other governors.
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang stated the decision was neither discussed by the PDP Governors’ Forum nor the National Executive Committee and could worsen the party’s internal crisis.
Fintiri emphasised that he would not support moves that could deepen divisions, while Mutfwang called the expulsions strategically unwise at a critical time.
The dispute highlighted the widening internal rift within the PDP as it approaches the 2027 elections, raising concerns over party unity and adherence to constitutional procedures.
