Reps give stakeholders 7 days to submit documents in naira-for-crude policy probe

The House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on Implementation and Oversight of the Naira-for-Crude Oil Policy has granted stakeholders a final seven-day window to submit all requested documents.

The directive comes after several stakeholders failed to comply with earlier deadlines and attend scheduled hearings.

Chairman of the committee, Rep. Boniface Emerengwa (PDP-Rivers), issued the order during an abridged hearing in Abuja on Thursday, citing “gross negligence and lack of seriousness” by relevant parties.

“The investigative hearing scheduled for today has been adjourned due to the repeated failure of stakeholders to recognize the legislative arm’s role in ensuring the effective implementation of this critical policy,” Emerengwa stated.

“This dereliction undermines the committee’s work and disrespects the Nigerian people, whose interests we are mandated to protect.”

The committee has now set a firm deadline of November 27, 2025, for the submission of all relevant documents.

The rescheduled investigative hearing is slated for December 2, 2025, at 12:00 PM in Conference Room 440, a date the chairman emphasized as “final and non-negotiable.”

Emerengwa warned that failure to comply would attract “severe sanctions,” including issuance of summonses and subpoenas, public naming and shaming of non-compliant entities, recommendations for penalties to regulatory and executive bodies, and escalation to plenary for further disciplinary action.

The committee, he noted, was established to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective oversight of the Naira-for-Crude Policy—a measure with far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s economy and national development.

“The policy is central to the nation’s economic sovereignty and fiscal accountability. Stakeholders must treat this ultimatum with the seriousness it deserves,” Emerengwa said, urging all parties to submit documents by the new deadline and prepare to appear before the committee on the rescheduled hearing date.
