Women leaders gather in Lagos as Sisters’ Hangout debuts with transformative energy

A cross-section of influential professionals, entrepreneurs, and creatives converged at the Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, on Friday, November 21, for the inaugural edition of the Sisters’ Hangout.
An initiative championed by veteran broadcaster and Director General of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), Chief Ify Onyegbule.
The event marked a significant step toward reshaping long-held perceptions about women’s relationships and encouraging a culture of collaboration and shared accomplishment.
Conceived as more than a social gathering, the Hangout served as a platform for women from varied sectors to engage in purposeful networking, exchange ideas, and spark partnerships with long-term impact.
The debut edition focused on dispelling the persistent notion that women hinder one another’s progress, shifting the narrative instead toward unity, strategic support, and collective advancement.
In her opening remarks, Chief Onyegbule underscored the importance of building communities where women deliberately foster one another’s growth.
She described the gathering as the foundation of a movement aimed at strengthening networks that support women through mentorship, business opportunities, and professional synergy.
“Women excel when we create opportunities for one another and open doors intentionally.
“What we have started today is not just an informal meet-up; it is the beginning of a community anchored on support, accountability, and shared progress, ” she said.
Throughout the event, attendees engaged in dynamic conversations and networking rounds that encouraged openness, collaboration, and bold thinking.
Stories of personal and professional journeys were shared, sparking discussions on navigating challenges, scaling businesses, and building meaningful alliances.
Participants also reached a collective commitment to extend the spirit of the Hangout beyond the room by promoting opportunities and referrals among one another, exploring joint ventures and cross-sector partnerships, offering mentorship, especially to emerging female professionals among others.
The gathering concluded with Chief Onyegbule revealing that preparations for Sisters’ Hangout 2.0 were already underway, with plans to broaden participation and deepen the initiative’s mission of fostering leadership, collaboration, and self-development among women.
“This is the beginning of a new chapter.
“We are building a tribe of women who dream boldly, grow intentionally, and succeed together.
”Any woman who believes in the power of community and purpose-driven networking has a place in this movement, ” she said.
The inaugural edition of Sisters’ Hangout left behind a resonant message: when women unite with intention, they not only rewrite narratives, they set new standards for what collective success can look like.
