Makarfi: PDP will emerge stronger despite current challenges

Former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will overcome its present difficulties and come out stronger.
Speaking at the Southern Kaduna PDP Stakeholders’ Summit in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area, Makarfi described the gathering as a “wake-up call” for party members to stay focused, united, and prepared for the 2027 general elections.
The summit carried the theme: “Get Strengthened: A Wake-Up Call to PDP Members.”
Makarfi acknowledged the challenges the party has faced in recent years, noting that many political organisations in similar situations might have dissolved.
He urged members to maintain determination and work collectively to reposition the party ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
Highlighting the dangers of money-driven politics, Makarfi called on party members to select credible and principled candidates during primaries.
“We must prioritise individuals with capacity and integrity, because the party’s future depends on them,” he said.
The Kaduna State PDP Chairman, Edward Marsha, praised members for their continued trust in the party’s leadership.
He emphasised that the departure of some members has opened space for a new generation of leaders who can drive the party’s growth and success.
Danjuma Akuso, Southern Kaduna PDP Zonal Chairman, dismissed concerns about defections, assuring that the PDP remains deeply rooted in the region.
He added that no other party has matched PDP’s contributions to the area’s development, including infrastructure and social programs.
Other notable speakers, including former Deputy Governor Nuhu Bajoga and ex-state PDP Chairman Felix Hyet, reaffirmed their commitment to reclaiming political leadership in 2027.
Several stakeholders highlighted the party’s achievements under the Makarfi administration, particularly in rural development, road construction, and the creation of new chiefdoms in Southern Kaduna.
The summit ended with on a note of optimism, with participants calling for unity, discipline, and dedication to ensure the PDP continues to play a leading role in Nigeria’s political landscape.
