C’ River APC expels ex-Chairman, upholds suspension of special leader

Mr. Alphonsus Eba, the impeached chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River, was on Monday expelled from the party.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee held at the party’s secretariat in Calabar.

He was expelled by the state’s Caretaker Committee that also upheld the suspension of a state special leader, Dr.
Juliet Diwa.

The committee, led by Mr. Ekum Ojogu, announced the expulsion of former State Chairman, Mr. Alphonsus Eba, following the invocation of Article 21.5(v) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022.

Announcing the expulsion, Ojogu said, “The provision mandates automatic expulsion of any member who institutes legal action against the party without exhausting internal dispute resolution mechanisms.

It would be recalled that the embattled chairman was earlier impeached when some party members accused him of misconduct and withholding the salary of some party stakeholders.

The committee also considered a letter from the Boki Local Government Area on the suspension of the State Special Leader, Diwa.

Diwa was accused of gross misconduct at ward level, including an alleged assault on the Ward Chairman, Mr James Abang.

After deliberation, the committee upheld her suspension pending the outcome of the party’s disciplinary committee.

The committee reaffirmed its commitment to party discipline, internal democracy and strict compliance with the APC Constitution.
