Tinubu travels to Europe ahead of Abu Dhabi sustainability summit

President Bola Tinubu has left Lagos for Europe as part of his end-of-year recess, with plans to proceed later to the United Arab Emirates for an official international engagement, the Presidency has confirmed.
A statement released on Sunday by the State House disclosed that the President departed Nigeria on December 28, 2025.
The statement was signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the trip forms part of his year-end break and precedes his participation in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW).
The Presidency explained that President Tinubu’s attendance at the global sustainability summit is at the instance of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who formally invited the Nigerian leader to the event.
Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, scheduled to take place in early January, is a weeklong gathering that convenes heads of state, policymakers, business executives, innovators, and development experts from around the world.
The forum serves as a platform for high-level discussions on climate action, economic transformation, and sustainable development strategies.
This year’s edition of the summit will focus on the theme, “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go,” highlighting the need to translate global ambitions into practical solutions.
Organisers said the programme would explore how innovation, financing, and human capital could work together to drive sustainable progress and prepare nations for future challenges.
The Presidency noted that President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the summit in Abu Dhabi.
