Dele Momodu joins ADC, vows to fight one-party dominance in Nigeria

Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying his return to partisan politics is motivated not by personal ambition but by a desire to advance Nigerians’ collective interests and challenge the drift toward a one-party state.

Speaking at his membership declaration in Benin City on Thursday, Momodu described the move as a personal and political homecoming after decades of professional life and self-discovery outside his ancestral roots.

“Officially set to declare for the African Democratic Congress.

”It took me a long time, over 30 years, before I could discover my ancestral home,” he said, expressing gratitude to Senator Isa Raymond for guiding him through the process.

Momodu reflected on his years abroad, noting that over 50 years of hard work in the United States had given him stability and perspective.

“Today, nobody can say I have no roots in the United States. But today, I am standing before you as I firmly reintegrate myself into the political process of my state,” he said.

Dismissing speculation about immediate electoral ambitions, Momodu emphasised that his focus is ideological.

“People have asked me, ‘What do you want? Do you want to be governor or senator?’ No. I just want to promote the best interests of our people,” he said.

Momodu outlined his core mission: “My mission in politics is to join hands of fellowship with citizens of like minds to rescue, recover, and reset Nigeria.

”Nigeria must be rescued from a one-party state and one parliament.”

Paying tribute to ADC leaders, Momodu singled out Zipzon Oyebu for his “judiciousness, resoluteness, and sacrifice for the well-being of our nation.”

He also thanked supporters who attended the weekday event, describing their commitment as “not a joke.”

Momodu expressed confidence in the ADC leadership, saying: “I lend to Zipzon Oyebu the realisation of his ability to go down in history in our nation.”
