Momodu says Tinubu defeatable with strict INEC oversight

Former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu has argued that President Bola Tinubu can be unseated in the 2027 general election if opposition parties effectively monitor the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and present strong candidates.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, Momodu dismissed claims that President Tinubu is politically unbeatable, insisting that electoral outcomes largely depend on vigilance and transparency in the conduct of polls.

The publisher-turned-politician, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said the opposition must field candidates with the capacity, influence and organisational strength to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, close scrutiny of INEC’s processes would significantly reduce irregularities and create a level playing field for all contestants.

He maintained that with proper monitoring, electoral victories are achievable even against incumbent administrations.

Momodu further noted that the ADC boasts several high-profile politicians capable of mounting a serious challenge in 2027.

He mentioned former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as part of the party’s formidable lineup.

He added that the party’s strength is further reinforced by the presence of two of the top three contenders from the last presidential election, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.

The ADC chieftain expressed confidence that, if properly coordinated, the opposition could secure enough support nationwide to weaken the APC’s dominance.

He stressed that such a political shift would not be unprecedented.

Momodu noted that globally, elections conducted with professionalism and transparency often proceed smoothly, reinforcing his call for strict oversight of Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of 2027.
