Seven from same family slain In Kano attack

A brutal attack in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano, has left seven members of a single family dead, sparking outrage and an intensive police investigation.

The victims, identified as a 35-year-old woman, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children, were reportedly killed on Friday after suspected assailants forced their way into the family home in the early afternoon.

The attackers allegedly used dangerous weapons, inflicting fatal injuries on all seven occupants.

Police sources said a distress call was received shortly after the incident, prompting the immediate deployment of officers to the scene.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, was briefed and swiftly ordered a high-level response led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations.

The victims were evacuated to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed that they had succumbed to their injuries.

In response to the killings, the police command has launched a full-scale investigation, assigning the Criminal Investigation Department to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, Abdullahi Kiyawa, expressed condolences to the bereaved family, the Dorayi Chiranchi community and residents of the state, describing the incident as deeply tragic.

He assured the public that security agencies would pursue the case diligently and bring the perpetrators to justice, while also appealing to residents to provide any information that could assist ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has expressed deep sorrow over the brutal killing.

Describing the act as “barbaric, senseless, and a grave assault on human dignity,” Governor Yusuf extended his condolences to the family, the residents of Dorayi Chiranchi, and the people of Kano State.

His spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, said the governor prayed for eternal rest for the victims and strength for their loved ones to bear the loss.

Yusuf vowed that those responsible for the tragedy would be brought to justice. He directed the Kano State Police Command to immediately track, arrest, and prosecute the perpetrators.

He also ordered the Kano Neighbourhood Corps to intensify patrols and community surveillance in vulnerable areas to prevent similar incidents.

The governor also called on residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and report any suspicious activities, assuring that the state government remains committed to protecting lives and property.
