APC holds delegate congresses ahead of Rivers State Assembly bye-elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has successfully conducted ward congresses in Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas of Rivers State to elect delegates for its primaries ahead of the February 21, 2026, House of Assembly bye-elections.
The exercises were organised to select delegates who would vote for the party’s candidates in Ahoada East State Constituency II and Khana State Constituency II.
In Ahoada East, the congress was overseen by the party’s congress and primary committee, chaired by Shehu Dange with Smart Iheanazor as Secretary.
Observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Assistant Electoral Officer Okogbule Emilia, monitored the process, alongside security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Party members participated through voice votes, and five delegates were elected from each ward.
Similarly, the Khana LGA congress, supervised by committee head Oyoala Peter, followed the same process, ensuring compliance with party guidelines.
The delegates from both constituencies would now vote in the APC primaries to determine candidates for the bye-elections.
Party officials described the peaceful conduct of the congresses as a key step toward a successful participation in the upcoming elections.
The Ahoada-East II seat became vacant after the resignation of Edison Ehie, who was appointed Chief of Staff to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, while the Khana II seat has remained vacant since the death of its lawmaker, Dinebari Loolo, in September 2023.
