Mohammed-led PDP welcomes court ruling on convention

The Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the Federal High Court judgment that nullified the party’s November 2025 national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, describing the verdict as a triumph for internal democracy and the rule of law.

In a statement issued on Friday, the group said the ruling, delivered by the Ibadan Division of the Federal High Court, validated its long-held position that the convention which produced the Tanimu Turaki-led executive was conducted in violation of subsisting court orders and the party’s constitution.

The court had set aside the conduct and outcome of the Ibadan convention and restrained Turaki and others from parading themselves as national officers of the party, while affirming the Mohammed-led caretaker committee as the legitimate leadership of the PDP pending a valid national convention.

According to the statement signed by the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Junguda Mohammed, the judgment represents a decisive affirmation of constitutionalism, due process and internal party democracy.

He said the ruling reinforced the principle that legitimacy within the party could only be derived through strict compliance with the PDP constitution, extant laws and valid court orders.

The caretaker committee congratulated PDP members and supporters for their patience and resilience throughout the leadership crisis, noting that the verdict belonged to the entire party rather than any faction.

It also appealed to aggrieved members to embrace reconciliation and unity, stressing that the party must now move forward with renewed commitment to cohesion and collective progress.

The group further commended the judiciary for what it described as a firm and impartial stance in resolving political disputes, urging party stakeholders to remain law-abiding as efforts continue to reposition the PDP ahead of future electoral contests.
