Sanwo-Olu appeals for support to strengthen Lagos security

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, has urged individuals and organizations to contribute to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) to help sustain security across the state.
Speaking at a private breakfast meeting with select CEOs on Friday in Ikoyi, the governor highlighted that past contributions have been effectively used to empower security agencies.
He noted that Lagos funds more than 50 per cent of its security initiatives but aims to enhance private sector participation through transparency and accountability.
Sanwo-Olu outlined plans to upgrade the Command and Control Center, install additional CCTV cameras, and expand the safe city model.
Critical security needs include helicopters, drones, APCs, water cannons, tactical training, digital communication tools, and a modern mechanical workshop for first responders.
On recent Makoko demolitions, the governor stressed the government’s actions were for public safety, citing risks from sprawling shanties under high-tension power lines.
He reassured that the government’s goal is protecting lives, not displacing residents unnecessarily.
The governor also announced the upcoming commissioning of 35 schools for 22,000 students in Tolu, Ajegunle, and highlighted the relocation of the Okobaba sawmill as part of safety and urban development efforts.
He emphasised the need for a secure environment to attract investment and ensure the safety of Lagos residents.
