Police pledge stronger borders through lawmakers collaboration

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening national border security through sustained collaboration with the National Assembly.
The IGP made the announcement while hosting members of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Border Security at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting aimed to enhance cooperation between the executive and legislative arms in addressing border-related security challenges.
Represented by Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Bzigu Yakubu Kwazhi, Egbetokun commended the lawmakers for their proactive engagement and emphasised that safeguarding Nigeria’s borders requires a collective, coordinated approach, supported by shared intelligence and a unified national security vision.
The House delegation was led by Committee Chairman Hon. Isah Anka and included Hon. David Agada, Hon. Davidson Akinlayo Kolawole, Hon. Paul Gowon, Hon. Saba Ahmed Adamu, and Committee Clerk Mrs. Jemila Umar, according to a statement from CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer.
Hon. Anka assured the police of the committee’s legislative support, particularly in areas such as modern surveillance technologies, improved welfare for border officers, and specialised training for the Border Patrol Force.
Also present, Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Border Patrol Force, AIG Nemi Iwoh, praised the committee for its sustained interest in border security and expressed optimism that the meeting’s resolutions would strengthen Nigeria’s border security architecture.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its determination to protect the integrity of national borders and welcomed continued collaboration with the National Assembly and other stakeholders to achieve sustainable security outcomes.
